Building a Stronger British Columbia, Together

The primary value of nitrocellulose production in Canada is in the ability to hold and transform the natural resource assets into products many times the value of their raw export state. This also creates domestic workforce multipliers in the support of pre- and post-production activities.
The benefits to the domestic economy continue to ripple outward, causing a reduction in expenditures on foreign procurement of essential defense goods, as well as a reinforcement of Canada’s sustained commitment to NATO and our partners in defense.

 Local Economic Impact

Revenues from the forestry sector provide billions of dollars to the provincial government, which is used for everything from education, infrastructure, health care, and reinvestment in the people it serves. With government revenue from the forestry industry dropping quickly within the last few years, and spending increasing in an equally rapid way, the generation of new revenue is critical to the working capabilities of the government.

Strengthening Canada's Economy, One Project at a Time

At the end of 2021, the Province of BC projected an $8.1 billion deficit in the budget. At the same time, projected revenue from forestry was projected to drop by half, from $1.9 billion in 2022 to $900 million in 2025/26. This was before the loss of 9% CAD currency value and a trade imbalance with the United States which triggered ongoing tariffs further reducing the export value and quantity of the forestry sector.
